The Tibet Policy Institute organised a five day conference on Tibet and the Himalaya: States, Communities, Ecology and Exchanges between 18-22^nd October 2021.

On 21st October, Dr. Sonika Gupta gave a talk on the topic “Tibetan Rehabilitation in Arunachal Pradesh: Local, State and Geopolitical Anxieties.”

Her talk explored the local resistances against the implementation of the Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy in Arunachal Pradesh. This resistance is framed within the politics of the state to tease out the complex relationship between territory, indigeneity and citizenship that reinforce contestations over the figure of the refugee and immigrant.
